project details
I was tasked with researching and creating a brand identity for an upcoming ed-tech startup: venue.
This was the first branding project I ever completed, and was done without any external support.
process
Since this was my first time completing such a project, I had limited experience regarding the process of creating a brand. However, just a few months prior, I had the opportunity to witness as Snohetta Design created a new brand for a company I was interning at.
So naturally, I took a page out of their playbook and attempted to follow as similar a structure as possible.
I began by interviewing the company founders to better understand how they each envisioned their brand. This helped inform the direction I would explore primarily, and to collect inspiration for a moodboard.
Once I had received my answers, I began analysing competitors in the space to understand their brands and find what was working in the market.
Many years ago, an old boss of mine told me that a strong logo should look just as good in black and white as it does in full color. So I began by coming up with variations for a potential logo design.
Once I had some starter logo ideas I was satisfied, I returned to the Venue team to present them with the ideas. Using the feedback I received, I tweaked the logo variants until I found one that fit the vision the founders and I had for the brand.
With that done, I began looking at typography, and attempting to find a font that would fit the overall vision we were going for. Eventually, I landed on Graphik.
With the typography and logo done, the only remaining thing was to decide on a color scheme. Using the market research done prior, as well as some basic color pyschology, I landed on the following color palette.
presentation
The only remaining step was to put it all together and present it to the founders.
